Excuse Our Cyber Absence

Apologies for the extended break. We’ve had lots going on between our travels, events galore, attending weddings and of course –  the much anticipated Odyssey Trunk Show. For those of you who made it down to see us at The Rug Company in DIFC last month, thank you for your support. And for those of you who didn’t, we hope you have a good excuse.

So collectively we’ve been to London twice, Bombay twice, skiing in Zermatt and attended one of the most spectacular weddings of dear friends in Monte Carlo. If you plan to get married in the South of France (and if your bank balance allows it), we recommend – no, we insist – that you use Frank Damgaard of Monte Carlo Weddings. Our highlights: the wedding ceremony held at the Opera House (wow), the personalised  Judith Leiber gifts (yes, with our initials in diamantes), the 30 piece French orchestra playing classic Hindi tunes during dinner and best of all, the bride on stage singing with Akon. Yes, we suffered from major post wedding blues in the weeks to follow.

Our trips to Bombay were fairly fruitful especially since we were there to witness India win the ICC Cricket World Cup for the first time in 28 years (albeit not at the stadium with the men but in a slightly more intimate setting at the Willingdon Sports Club but don’t worry, we still had a roomful of supporters dancing Bangra to Rihanna every time India scored a 4 or a 6), routine round at Ensemble by Lion’s Gate for the latest in India’s fashion (this always rekindles our love affair with indo-western trends), attended the launch of our new retail heaven Le Mill (concept store comprising of multi brand fashion, accessories, childrenswear, homewares, furniture, in-store flower shop, coffee shop and lounge area) opened by the lovely Cecilia Parikh (former womenswear buyer at Bergdorf Goodman), had a delightful meal at Olive by the Race Course (the closest India will ever get to Capri), had sundowners at Dome with the vivacious designer Elise Overland (one of our new fave designers from NYC originally from Norway) and had our fix of Chinese food at Royal China where we ordered from the menu on an iPad (très impressed).

The unthinkable happened on our brief visits to London – it didn’t rain. Unlike here in Dubai. (What was with the thunderstorm tonight?) So while we didn’t get to use our wellies in London, we still made the most of our boots (current faves if we HAD to choose would be our over-the-knee flat taupe suede studded Glens by Georgina Goodman but don’t ask us to choose, that would just be wrong). Since 12C in the sunshine doesn’t require too many layers, walking around our favourite city in the world was sheer bliss in blue skies (if you remember what that is).

And did we mention it was Fashion Week? Ohh the fashion! How we love the creativity of the Brits. The overly quirky, colourful, edgy, not-so-post-punk attitude to fashion. Every outfit seen at Somerset House was a piece of art. While technically we were hard at work sniffing out the latest and hottest designers on exhibit and attending shows by the likes of Mark Fast, Todd Lynn, Alex Noble (who designs for Lady Gaga so that was an impressive presentation) and Emilio de la Morena, we couldn’t help but pop into the Issa show. Though sitting behind Hilary Alexander in her fox tail hat restricted our view, the show was nothing but outstanding. Complemented by jewels from N.oor by fellow Londoner Noor Fares.

We’ll be back soon with lots more but in the meanwhile we’ll leave you with a defining moment in the history of Indian sports:
